Can the Mini-Lap have a remote infra red sensor like the Ultra-Lap. I ask this as i only need a basic lap timer but as its going into a car i do not have direct line of sight to the beacon.

No, sorry -- you'll need an Ultra-Lap for that. You can order an Ultra-Lap with cables from 2' to 10' connecting the display unit with the I/R pickup.
